To get a library card, come to the Library at 201 S. College Avenue and bring photo identification and acceptable proof of your current street address (drivers license, state ID, military ID, a recent utility bill, lease agreement, etc.). Library cards are issued for one year. You will need to bring this same information when it is time to renew your library card.
• Children under the age of 18 who do not yet have their own valid ID may use the ID of a parent or legal guardian.
• Children under the age of 12 will need a parent or guardian's ID and signature in order to obtain a card.
You will need to fill out a registration form at the Circulation Desk and then will receive your card. To speed the process, download the form, print and complete it and have it ready for the desk staff when you get here.
The process takes about five minutes, unless we are unusually busy.
Borrowing privileges and computer use are free to those who live inside the city limits of Tyler and you or your landlord pays property tax to the City of Tyler. Please note that not everyone with a Tyler postal or mailing address lives inside the city limits. Residency will be determined by actual location of street address. If you live outside the city limits of Tyler but you, your spouse, or, for minor children, their parents, personally own property or a business on which property taxes are paid to the City of Tyler borrowing is also free. (If you live outside the city limits and wish to claim free borrowing privileges for property or business ownership, please bring proof of property tax payment along with the identification mentioned in the section above when you apply for or renew your library card.)
Those who do not pay property tax to the City of Tyler, and live within the boundaries of Smith County or elsewhere in Texas may borrow materials or use the library's computers for a fee. You may purchase a monthly membership of $10 a month, 6-month membership for $50 or a one-year membership for $90, which will entitle you to the same borrowing privileges as residents.
Lost cards can be replaced for a $1 charge.
Printing from the library computers costs 25 cents per page. The library does not have color printing capabilities at the current time.
