Make a Donation
There are many ways you can give to the Tyler Public Library.

Donations of Money

The library will gratefully accept donations of any amount. Acknowledgments will be sent to all donors. General purpose donations will be deposited to a special gift fund. This fund will not be used for general operating expenditures, but only for special purchases or projects. Donations may also be made for collection materials. Purchases from this fund will be authorized by the Collection Development Committee. Donations of over $200 may be designated for specific subject areas of the collection. Those under $200 will be placed in the fund and combined with other donations for purchase of materials.

Donations of Books and Materials

We appreciate and gladly accept your donations of books, movies, music, and genealogical resources in good condition. Items that are not added to the collection can still benefit the Library through sale at our Book Nook, Book and Media Sale, or Silent Auction. Donations must be brought into the Library and given to a front-desk staff member. Donations should not be left in the book drop or anywhere else outside the Library.

Please contact the City Librarian to discuss any special donations, such as:

  • Rare items pertaining to the history of Tyler and Smith County.
  • Donation of a very large number of books – for instance, from an estate.
  • Rare books or a special collection.

Items We Do Not Accept For Donation:

  • Magazines
  • Newspapers
  • Textbooks
  • Moldy and/or water-damaged items
  • Books with insect activity or damage
  • Worn or scratched DVDs and CDs
  • DVDs and CDs without cases/cover art

We ask that you please dispose of these items elsewhere.

If you would like a donation form for your tax records, please ask a staff member when you drop your items off. It is the responsibility of the donor to know how many items were donated, or to make an itemized list of donated materials before donation.

Items donated to the Library become Library property and will be used at our discretion in a way that benefits the Library or other non-profit agency.

Book Marks Remembrance Fund

The Book Marks Remembrance Fund provides an opportunity to celebrate (a person's life and achievements), honor (people who have made contributions to you, your organization, the community) and remember people who've made a difference in your life. Donations made in honor or memory of special people and loved ones are used to purchase books and other materials that the library might not otherwise be able to buy. A special bookplate is placed in these items, and acknowledgment will be made to the person commemorated or his or her family.

Please make checks payable to City of Tyler and indicate that your check is for a donation. Please mail to:
